After some nightmare stories of buggy 20 gigs installation I wasn’t expecting to play WoW the same day I started installing. Against that idea the trial only required 80 megabytes and was pretty much a flawless victory installation. On the other side registering took me a while because blizzard was updating its servers.

Once I created an account and my character, a Night elf named orionblack, it was time to play. I had no idea which server to choose, so I went to a “new players” one, Drakkari. I had to download some extra files, but I was finally there, I was playing WoW.

I don’t really enjoy tutorials, so as long as the semi-forced presentation with the HUD and basic controls ended I just started walking. I’ve played a lot of games and it has been a long time since I felt that sensation of being in front of something huge. I think it’s a mixture between the music(I really liked it), the graphic style(magic creatures everywhere, the purple sky…) and knowing that there’s millions of people playing WoW concurrently. It’s hard to explain, but I enjoyed just exploring the World of Warcraft.

I wasn’t expecting to have a gaming session that night(remember the whole 20 gigs download process), so after an hour or so of lurking around I called it a day.

It was like 5 years ago the first time I heard about WoW. A friend tried it and instantly became addicted. He urged me to get an account “It’s gonna be awesome” he said, when quitting dealing with his abstinence syndrome wasn’t that awesome. Fortunately for me by that time I had a really crappy computer, not that I own an alienware now, so trying it wasn’t an option. I received invitations in different occasions, but with all those stories of WoW addicts and my enthusiasm towards RPG’s, getting into a never ending RPG never sounded really life/time wise. As you can imagine, I’ve been avoiding MMORPG like the plague.

This brings me to the present and why I’m gonna play WoW at least for 10 days. I enrolled into a game design course and as part of my assignments I’ve to play wow for 10 days and write about it. So you’ll be able to read an every day chronicle of dealing with drugs WoW. I’ve been playing like for three days by now, so I’m going to write some retroactive post for those days.

Valentine’s day is cool for chocolate factories, but What about love?. This small video game is not intended to be fun(in a traditional sense), but to depicts a small reflexion of love’s nature. This game has no particular instructions or specific goal and is open to player’s interpretation. I don’t want to create a bias in your possible interpretation, so if somebody is curious about my insights comments might be a nice place for them.
